Encouragement For A Weary Heart
Memory verse for the week: Romans 8:38-39 “For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, 39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Yesterday we talked about the Laodicean church. The were rich in man’s eyes but Jesus said they were wretched, miserable, poor, blind and naked. We closed with Jesus counsel to them. Rev. 3:18-20 “I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. 19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent. 20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.”
From Adam Clark Commentary: “Pure gold has to be put into the fire to get all the dross. And white raiment. The emblem of purity and salvation. The word eye-salve-- occurs nowhere else in the New Testament. It is applied to eye and refers to a medicament prepared for sore or weak eyes. It was compounded of various substances supposed to have a healing quality. The reference here is to a spiritual healing--meaning that, in respect to their spiritual vision, what he would furnish would produce the same effect as the collyrium or eye-salve would in diseased eyes”
Rev. 3:20 “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.” Have you ever seen the picture of Jesus standing at a door and knocking? It is supposed to be a picture of Jesus knocking at our hearts door. There is one thing missing in that picture, no door knob on the outside. The door has to be opened from the inside. We have to open the door and let Him in.
